02 — Corporate web design

A company website that loads fast and says what you do

Most corporate sites fail on the same three things: they are slow, they are hard to read on a phone, and they never quite say what the company does. We build sites that fix those first and look good second — which, in practice, is also how they end up looking good.

The problem

What usually goes wrong

The site is slow, and slow costs you visitors

A page built on a heavy template with a dozen plugins can take several seconds to appear. People leave before it does. Google notices too: speed is part of how pages are ranked.

It looks wrong on a phone

Most visitors arrive on a phone. If your text wraps badly, buttons are too small to tap or a table runs off the side of the screen, the visit is over.

Nobody can tell what you actually do

Sites drift into abstraction — “solutions”, “transformation”, “end-to-end” — and a visitor with thirty seconds cannot work out whether you can help them.

Updating it requires ringing someone

If changing a phone number means raising a ticket, the site slowly goes out of date until it is actively misleading.

How we solve it

Our approach

  1. 01
We write the content structure before the design

What does a visitor need to know, in what order, to decide to contact you. That decides the pages. Design comes after, and has an easier job.

  2. 02
We build to web standards, not to a page builder

Clean HTML and CSS, no framework unless it earns its place. That is why our own site is under 150 KB and renders instantly — and why yours can be.

  3. 03
    Accessible by default

Real heading structure, visible keyboard focus, colour contrast that passes WCAG AA, alt text on images. It is better for every visitor and it is what the law expects of UK businesses.

  4. 04
    Findable from day one

Titles, meta descriptions, structured data, a sitemap and clean URLs are part of the build, not an afterthought sold to you later.

Every project runs through the same five steps — investigation, understanding the problem, development, testing, then launch and automation. See how we work.

What you get

Delivered at the end of the week

  • A responsive site that works from 360 px upwards
  • Light and dark themes if you want them
  • Search-engine basics done properly at build time
  • Hosting that is a folder of files — cheap to run, hard to break

Scope is agreed in writing before we start. If the work will not fit in a week, we say so before you pay anything.

Questions

Frequently asked

Do you use WordPress?

Only when the client genuinely needs to edit content daily and wants that specific admin. For most brochure sites it adds cost, weight and a maintenance burden for something that changes twice a year.

Can we edit the site ourselves afterwards?

Yes — we can wire it to a simple editor, or hand over the files if your team is comfortable with them. We will tell you honestly which is cheaper for how often you actually update.

How many pages does £/$1,000 cover?

A focused site — typically a home page plus three or four supporting pages, agreed in writing before we start. Larger sites are quoted separately.
